La vida de Mikel Renteria y Mentxu Mendieta cambió un 13 de octubre de 2008 cuando a su hijo mediano Jon (Jontxu, 2T) le diagnosticaron una grave enfermedad neurodegenerativa. Un golpe que les llevó a conocer estas realidades y que dio lugar a la creación del movimiento WOP.. . Pese a la graves secuelas de la enfermedad hoy 2T sigue luchando y es el capitán, alma y luz de la Fundación WOP. Un movimiento social que sus padres, Mikel y Mentxu, crearon para la lucha contra las enfermedades neurodegenerativas. WOP es una fundación/empresa con diferentes líneas profesionales: promoción musical a través de conciertos festivales de rock; línea textil y productos WOP; eventos singulares como la Estropatada (carrera de WOPatos en la Ría de Bilbao, www.wopato.com), una línea de trabajo en I+D dedicada a la ingeniería para discapacidad y WOPeak (www.wopeak.com), un proyecto de alpinismo junto a Alberto Iñurrategi, Juan Vallejo y Mikel Zabalza.. . Por su parte, la Fundación WOP recibe los fondos del beneficio generado por esas líneas de actuación y es la entidad que financia proyectos de investigación en la búsqueda de terapias para enfermedades neurodegenerativas a través de una convocatoria pública llamada WOP Funding.
