The University of Texas at Austin Semester in Los Angeles Program offers a unique opportunity for students who are serious about exploring academic and professional interests related to the entertainment industry.
The Semester in Los Angeles Program is available each semester throughout the year: fall, spring or summer, and classes are held at the UTLA Center, located in Los Angeles near Burbank, just minutes away from some of the major Hollywood studios.
Courses focus on the business and creative sides of the entertainment industry and are taught by seasoned professionals (many of them UT alumni), with extensive careers in film, television, music, and new media..

Students benefit from excellent instruction in a small class setting, participation in internships directly related to their interests, access to leading industry professionals through internships, guest speakers and set visits, and the support of UTLA Center staff and program alumni beyond their semester of participation..

The program was launched in 2005 and is open to all eligible students for a limited number of seats each semester..

Alumni Access to the UTLA Center.

UT Alumni are welcome and encouraged to use the UTLA Center during the normal business hours of 9:00am to 5:00pm PST Monday thru Friday.
UT Alumni are no longer allowed access to or use of the UTLA Center between the hours of 5:00pm and 9:00am Monday thru Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday.
Only currently enrolled UTLA students may continue to have access to and use of the UTLA Center 24 hours a day until such time as their semester program ends..

If a UT Alumnus would like to have access after 5:00pm Monday thru Friday, or even on Saturday or Sunday, the alumnus must formally submit a request in writing to the Executive Director explaining the details of their desired use of the Center and the day(s) and hours on which they would like use.
The ED and his staff will review the request to determine whether access should be granted..

Upon being granted use, the alumnus must complete a form accepting full responsibility for the use of the Center and the contents in the Center as well as provide a credit card on which we will charge a $1000 deposit that will be used to cover any damage that occurs during the alumnus’ use of the Center.
If it is determined that after using the UTLA Center that no damage has been incurred, the UTLA Program will refund the credit card charge..

In addition, during the Alumnus’ use of the Center, a UTLA Staff person must be present at all times.
This can be the Executive Director, the Program Coordinator, the Program Administrator, or one of the Student Emergency Coordinators.
If none of these staff persons are available, the request for use of the Center after hours will be denied..

Finally, UT Alumni will not be granted use of any equipment available at the UTLA Center after 5:00pm, including but not limited to, UTLA filming equipment, sound equipment, lighting equipment, computer work stations, copiers, classroom A/V systems, etc.
They will not be allowed to borrow videotapes, DVD’s or library material from the Resource Library and Lounge Video Library.
