In 2011 my husband Brian and I decided we wanted to form a corporation and name it after our 5 children, and so, we started R5 KIDS LLC.
Our intention was to purchase a beach home, one where our children could enjoy a vacation, but also one which we could share with our family, friends, and anyone wishing to get away.
As long time vacationers in Seaside since our childhood, and having shared that experience with our children throughout various homes in the area, we knew Seaside Heights is where we would begin our search!.

We spent much of 2012 searching for the perfect home within our budget.
Unfortunately, on October 29, 2012 Super Storm Sandy ravished the Jersey Shore and our dream of purchasing a shore home seemed uncertain.
Seaside suffered tremendously as many homes were lost completely, and those left standing were badly flooded and damaged.
Our hearts went out to all those who suffered major losses due to Sandy, as we were fortunate to suffer only minor damage to our residence further north along the shoreline.
Winter passed, and in the Spring we were finally allowed back into Seaside to pursue our venture of finding a vacation home.
We would not let Sandy dampen our dream!.

Excited to be able to gain access to the Island we made our way to the many homes that were suddenly for sale.
We simply could not believe the devastation, and our hearts were heavy for the homeowners who were unable or unwilling to take on the extraordinary task of restoring their home back to its original state.
We had to ask ourselves if we were ready to take on a challenge this big.
It didn't take long for us to realize that we wanted to be part of the restoration of this beautiful shore town; the one that we knew as our second home while growing up.
We wanted to invest in Seaside's future for our children, and for their children, so they may create wonderful memories similar to the ones we held so dear!.

So with our hearts in the right place and our minds made up, we purchased 115 Kearney Avenue from a family who were the original owners of the property, and decided it was time to move on.
The property was sold “as is”, having suffered damage from Sandy.
We started our project by gutting the first floor and hiring a professional mold remediator, then followed up with more contractors and our own sweat equity; it was a true labor of love.
We wanted everything perfect and safe for all who stayed here.
We took great pride in knowing we did the very best to ensure it was all done properly, and spared no expense..

We knew before we bought a shore house that we would give it a name, and so we asked our children, our friends and family to help come up with one.
Everyone came up with some great ideas and it really became a competition between them, but it was too difficult to choose.
One night as we started the renovation, the first floor still gutted and empty, I looked at Brian and said, "we bought a shell of a house!".
Brian turned to me and said, "that's it!” and the "Shell House" was born! No name we could think of both fit the theme and symbolized the restoration process in such a way.

The renovations are now behind us; our home was decorated professionally by myself, as I was finally able to use my interior design degree on my own project for a change.
The Shell House has been loaded with all the comforts of home, and we know each visitor will love it from your first visit.
