The Salvation Army was founded by William and Catherine Booth in 1865, and service began within the community of San Bernardino in 1887. Since the 1980's the Hospitality House has offered a safe haven for thousands of San Bernardino's homeless. . . The Salvation Army shelters those facing homelessness all year. Families within our shelter have faced a variety of crisis situations, including substance abuse, mental and physical illnesses, domestic violence, an/or loss of housing due to financial crisis with no easy solution insight. . . We receive these families and immediately provide them with a safe, clean place to rest and begin the process of securing permanent housing. Clients have access to supportive services and weekly case management that helps them regain stability for each person within the family. . . Unfortunately in recent years we have experienced a significant increase in homelessness; this includes more women and children living on the streets. . .
