Detailed description is The Ordynary will be a full-service ice cream parlor with a colonial period theme. We will also serve soup and sandwiches. The founding of The Ordynary has been a long journey. You could argue that it all began on November 15, 1777. More on that later. In reality, the concept of a restaurant themed on York's Revolutionary War history developed over a nearly two-year period. Knowing I wanted a casual restaurant and wanting to honor my Philadelphia roots (although I have been a Yorker for more than half of my life) I first envisioned a Philadelphia cheese steak restaurant loosely based on the famous cheese steak establishments in Philadelphia. But, believing that concept has been beaten to death, I turned my thoughts to other ways of recognizing my roots. . Having grown up in the Philadelphia area I have a strong interest in Revolutionary War history. Along those lines, I recognized the York/Philadelphia connection when our Founding Fathers traveled to York in the fall of 1777. With that in mind, the idea of using York’s underutilized American Revolution connections as the theme of the restaurant began to take root. York is growing as a tourist destination. Our Revolutionary history can and should be a big part of that tourism. We are the nation’s first capital after all. . And, with tourism in mind, I realized you can’t go to a tourist destination without finding a good ice cream parlor. Unless, of course, Historic Downtown York was your destination. Well, The Ordynary is here to solve that problem. We specialize in locally made ice cream. But that’s not all. Our food menu will be one of some uniquely created comfort food options. The details on that will come when we are closer to opening.. One more thing about The Ordynary. In fact, it is the most important thing. We are not just an ordinary business (pun intended). Our mission is to support the local community. With that in mind, The Ordynary will donate 10 percent of all net profits to York County non-profits. The details of that are still being worked out. It is likely to be 13 different charities, each getting a four-week period where the 10 percent will be donated. The charities and the calendar will be posted online when it is determined.
