Detailed description is Jake Offutt 6/1/00-7/13/15 On December 17, 2014, Jake’s entire life changed when he went for a routine visit about his migraine headaches only to find out he had a tumor on his brain stem. Within the next two weeks, he had surgery to remove most of the tumor and learned his tumor was a high grade astrocytoma, a very aggressive form of brain cancer that is hard to treat and difficult to cure. Jake underwent six weeks of daily radiation treatments and chemotherapy. On March 24, 2015, Jake experienced a major setback when he had a brain aneurysm. This unfortunately caused many severe medical problems for Jake that led to many weeks in the hospital at a time. . . Throughout his whole illness Jake remained so strong and brave. So many looked up to Jake because he would not give up. Unfortunately, Jake passed away July 13, 2015, just 7 short months after his diagnosis. His story has touched the lives of many and it is our hope to keep his memory alive. There have been so many that have helped Jake along the way through this journey that we would love to give back. First, his high school football team which allowed him to be a manager when Jake was having some medical problems before we discovered his cancer have been so supportive through this process. We would like to give back to his football family and provide them with things their team may need. Second, Jake attended St. John, a private school, for nine years. The school is always in need of repairs and we would love to help provide some funds for the school to make necessary updates. Next, we would like to give to the Johns Hopkins Oncology children and teen rooms. The students that stay on the oncology floor are often there for weeks at a time. They have little to do during that time. The children and teen rooms are in need of items for these children to make their days more bearable. The patients have Xboxes 360 in their rooms but the teen room has very few Xbox 360 games to offer the kids to play and a small selection of movies for the kids to watch. We would like to change that for these kids knowing how important these items can be. . . Most of all, Jake’s dream was to continue in his martial art and eventually become an instructor a Martial Arts instructor. Jake embodied everything that his martial arts taught, Modesty, Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Courage, and Indomitable Spirit. We believe that Jake would want for us to allow his name to carry on in the world of martial arts. We plan to spread Jake’s love, dedication and commitment to martial arts with others that may not be able to afford to attend classes but have a desire to possess a high ethical and moral standard as well as a positive attitude in their life. Our goal is to provide tuition assistance as well as college level scholarships so that students can “Embrace the Warrior Within”. The benefits of Martial Arts extends far beyond self-defense.
