Detailed description is Central Upper Peninsula and Northern Michigan University Archives, located in room 126 of the Learning Resources Center, is currently working on an NHPRC funded grant project digitizing three record series of the Cleveland-Cliffs Iron Mining Company. The Cleveland-Cliffs Iron Mining Company Digitization project, funded by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission, will focus on three record series from the Cleveland-Cliffs Iron Mining Company collection. The three series include over 70,000 historical documents contained in lumber, land, and mining annual reports and over 235 maps dated 1893-1960. The final project will also included the following: a blog documenting the progress of the project, photographs pertaining to or contained within the collection, a website constructed to maintain all digitized documents for public access and use, and lesson plans utilizing the source materials to meet Michigan education standards.. . The project is being supervised by University Archivist, Marcus Robyns, and Project Archivist, Rachael Bussert. The following grant assistants are also participating in the completion of the project: Christopher Kern junior majoring in art history with a minor in English; Miranda Revere, a post-baccalaureate accounting major; and Megan Warnos, a senior majoring in digital cinema. Olivia Ernst, a graduate bound English and German double major and the Archives Digital Resources and Technology Coordinator, is also working on the project.. . The digitization will includes: two plustek OpticPro A320 scanners for digitizing annual reports and a Xerox 510 Wide Format map scanner with a Color Enhancement Key module for digitizing maps. Those maps which are too large or in too poor of shape will be photographed using a 12 megapixel Digital SLR camera with interchangeable lenses, stabilized with a tripod.
