It is a separate and. independent organization, which is responsible for and manages its own activities and. affairs. The University does not direct, supervise or control the organization and is not. responsible for the organization’s contracts, acts or omissions.. . This page will serve as the official Facebook page for the new University of Virginia Jiu-Jitsu Club. Our purpose is to provide a constructive, safe, and friendly environment for UVa students to learn the fundamentals of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), which will promote a sense of community through its cooperative partner-based nature, teach body awareness/kinetics that can prevent common injuries (e.g. falling safely), and help members build self-confidence, and teach practical self-defense skills. Members will form lasting friendships, learn communication skills/teaching abilities, practice perseverance in the face of challenges, and practice conflict resolution and de-escalation skills that can be applied to the real world. There will also be many chances to take seminars from very experienced instructors and to compete in competitions, but neither are mandatory.. . No experience is needed to join!. .
