Detailed description is A game-changing community of Black women in education.. . The Black Women’s Project is a community organisation that operates at UK universities (currently based at the University of Warwick) to foster a sense of community and sisterhood to help complement the educational experiences of black girls and black women. . The aim is to contribute to their sustainable development throughout their educational careers and beyond.. . In addition to creating community and a familiar point of reference for black women in education, we are passionate about research and policy in order to contribute to the canon that concerns us, outreach to inspire the young ones, and the further development of our organisation to make as great impact as possible, thus tackling this issue from many angles. . . We do this because the higher we go, the fewer of us seem to be present so there is clearly a need for sustainable representation, retention, and leadership.. . More specifically, in the winter of 2014, our founder learned that black women were often graduating with excellent degrees but were unable to retain their professional positions due to mental illness. This is something that our founder has continued to explore alongside her studies. However, along this journey, she coined the organisational mantra “Be Well to Do Well” and created the forum to explore how. . . Over the years, a number of incredible women on the leadership teams have interrupted this phenomenon and designed a culture of mindfulness for the sustainable livelihoods that precede sustainable legacies. We as student leaders carry this baton and lead a community of high achieving black women that are committed to development and progression that “lasts” whilst having a lot of fun.. .
