The Missouri State University Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) Bear Battalion is the foremost leadership development program in the Ozarks and Southern Missouri.. . We live the Army Values: . The Bear Battalion is comprised of students from Missouri State, College of the Ozarks, Evangel University, Southern Baptist University, and Drury University.. . The Battalion is hosted by Missouri State University, where it was founded in 1952 as the Department of Military Science and Leadership. . . MSU ROTC has a long and proud tradition of producing leaders of character for the nation. 13 graduates have reached the rank of Brigadier General or higher.. . Students at any of the participating universities listed above can enroll in military science classes during their Freshman and Sophomore years without committing to military service. Prior to the beginning of their Junior year, those students wishing to compete for a contracted slot in the program may do so. . . If selected to continue with ROTC advanced courses, students will be commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army upon graduation and successful completion of all ROTC program requirements.
