As a means to provide funding for The Arc of Central Plains, the Thrift Shop began operation in 1969 with 4 volunteers and a weekly sale.
Today the Thrift Shop is open 6 days a week, is operated by 40 volunteers, and continues as the primary financial support of the organization.
Bernita Hammerschmidt, one of the original volunteers still volunteers weekly.
The Thrift Shop is run completely by volunteers with each day having their own lead volunteer who is responsible for the crew for that day.
Most volunteer one day a week, but we do have some individuals who volunteer 2 days a week and others who volunteer 1/2 a day or every other week.
Everything that is sold at the Thrift Shop comes from donations from the community, including individual donations and donations from stores with left over sale or closeout items.
Without the volunteer and the community support of the Thrift.

Items we can use include clothing, small furniture, small appliances, books, linens, blankets, shoes, knick-knacks, dishes, & misc.
