Detailed description is The American Public Education Foundation 9/12 Generation Project provides Service-Learning opportunities through civics and citizenship education.
The 9/12 Generation Project is a ten-year national youth service-learning initiative whose mission is to inspire and educate 1.5 million middle school and high school students with the positive lessons of humanity, kindness, and citizenship of 9/12 – the day after 9/11-- in order to activate these students in volunteer service projects focused on community revitalization, disaster relief and the arts, that will empower students to have a positive impact on communities beyond their economic means and geographic limitations.

The 9/12 Generation Project is the youth service-learning division of The New York Says Thank You Foundation, which was established in 2003 at the suggestion of a 5-year-old boy and has grown into the Nation’s leading direct service volunteer organization on the 9/11 Anniversary.
At the core of our educational and service initiative is the documentary film New York Says Thank You, which has been described as the best movie about volunteerism ever made and which was viewed by over 6 million Americans on the weekend of the 10th Anniversary of 9/11 thanks to the support of FOX television, America Online, Action America, and the National 9/11 Memorial & Museum.
