In the fall of 2016 Kevin Begemann purchased the farm and business from Don and Malia.
Kevin, a real estate broker from Portland, Oregon was presented with the opportunity to purchase this amazing property and business while visiting the Big Island just looking for a vacation rental.
After meeting Don and Malia at a farmer’s market, Kevin, was introduced to the opportunity of a lifetime and made the leap to buy the farm and business moving lock, stock and barrel to the island to be a farmer, bee keeper, and marketeer..

At 3000’ elevation the farm adjacent to the Ka’u forest reserve, surrounded by an Ohi’a forest the farm is the perfect location to grow dragon fruit and raise bees.
Tai Shan has 2 acres of dragon fruit cactus, citrus trees, coffee, banana, papaya, mac nuts with 12 bee hives that produce honey for our baked goods and our delicious honeys and honey mélanges.
Tai Shan’s honey production is unique in that the hives are kept at the edge of our dragon fruit field, concentrating on the production of rare dragon fruit honey when the fields are in bloom.
Harvested only twice a year dragon fruit blossom honey is smooth and buttery, light in sweetness with light floral notes on the finish.
Honey labeled as Reserve Dragon Fruit is only harvested when our fields are in full bloom and our bees can visibly be seen foraging on the blooms.
Our 2 other blossom honeys are coffee blossom and Lehua blossom.
The coffee blossom honey is dark, rich, and robust with finishing notes of caramel.
The Lehua blossom honey is light and sweet.

Tai Shan commercially produces 3 types of dragon fruit, white, pink and red flesh varieties.
From those varieties, we produce several lines of products: Hot Sauces, Salad Dressings, Cocktail Mixes and Jams.
All our products are made right here on our farm in our own certified commercial kitchen.
We only produce small batches, bottling, canning and jarring everything on site with aloha.
