Detailed description is The Way Of The Cosmic Fist The founder of Tao-Ch'uan-Tao is Master Cheng Lu.
Born in December of 1918 in the Honan province of China, his mother was of Chinese descent and his father of Korean descent.
His father was the Korean Military Ambassador.
It was 1922 when his family moved back to Myoung County, Korea.
At the age of eleven, his father sent him to study calligraphy with a well-known scholar, Mr.
Han II Dong in Seoul, Korea.
It was during that time that Mr.
Han began teaching him Tae Kyon, an art that was only known by Royalty and a select few in the military.
Mr.
Han was a master at the art of Tae Kyon {considered by many as the root of Tae Kwon Do}, an ancient art that consisted of kicking techniques and foot maneuvers.
It was during that time that Master Lu met and became close with Choi Hong Hi, considered by many today as the founder of Tae Kwon Do.
While training with Mr.
Han, master Lu and Choi became very good friends and shared many interests..
In the year of 1935 Master Lu's father passed away and his mother decided to move the family to Honan Province, China to live with her cousin where master Lu could continue his academic education and martial arts training.
His mother's cousin was Master Chen Pan Ling, a master of the internal arts of Tai Chi Chuan and weaponry.
He was also a professor of engineering.
While under the tutelage of Master Ling he remained in close contact with his friends in Tae Kwon Do.

In 1946, Master Lu returned to Korea to find that his long time friend master Choi was now in charge of the Korean Special Forces.
Master Lu stayed in Korea to train in the Tae Kyon second regime, a Special Forces unit under the guidance of master Choi.
During this time master Lu had become an eighth Dan in Tae Kwon Do Chung-Moo-Kwon, a system that was developed for the civilian population.
It was in 1956 when Master Lu returned to Kuo Ching, Taiwan where his mother and master Chen Pan Ling had been living.
Master Ling was in Taiwan teaching at the University of Taiwan in Taipei, the capital of Taiwan.
Master Ling was a leading authority on Chinese boxing and was well known for organizing special tournaments in Taiwan.
Master Lu began instructing the Taiwanese Special Forces units using Tae Kwon Do that was developed by master Choi between the years of 1956 through 1972.
Through out the years of teaching the Special Forces the system of Tae Kwon Do he had also been developing his own external principles.
He found that blending and redirecting rather than stopping and intercepting, to be a much more efficient and effective system for actual combat situations in both mental and physical strategies.
He continuously trained under the guidance of master Ling to complete the system of Tai-Ch'uan-Tao into a structured format that could be taught..

In 1972, master Lu took Tai-Ch'uan-Tao from his private Kwoon and introduced it to the Taiwanese Special Forces as part of their regular regime.
With the diversity of Tai-Ch'uan-Tao, he felt that it was a complete and spontaneous system for actual combative situations, which was needed for Special Forces.
Master Lu was a devoted Taoist who believed that people had their own unique Tao {way}, and that one would be allowed to cultivate and refine it rather than suppressing it.
This in turn strengthens our weaknesses and refines our strengths.
In June of 1972, Si-Gung John Gabriel first met master Lu while stationed in Tainan, Taiwan while in the United States Air Force.
William Rankin's, an American that had been in Taiwan for five years, introduced him to him.
He had known of Master Lu for quite some time.
Sifu Gabriel, already having accomplished the rank of third Dan in Tae Kwon Do, found that his martial arts training felt incomplete.
After meeting Master Lu and seeing Tai-Ch'uan-Tao, he felt that he had found what was missing in his own training.
However, master Lu was not so easily swayed into teaching the young American.
It took Sifu Gabriel three months of continuously going to master Lu's school, training with some of the students, and doing various tasks at the school before Master Lu accepted him as a student.
He began teaching and showing Sifu Gabriel the way of Tai-Ch'uan-Tao, and after training with master Lu for two years, he was awarded the title of disciple.
A disciple was equal in meaning to "private tutelage." After returning to the United States in 1976, Sifu Gabriel started to demonstrate and introduce Tai-Ch'uan-Tao.
In 1978, the first Red Dragon Martial Arts Academy of Tai-Ch'uan-Tao [Red Dragon Training hall #241] was opened.

In 1987 Sifu Gabriel's first disciples of Tao-Ch'uan-Tao, Si-fu's Fred Foley, Mike Dehay & David Collins, began teaching the system at the Red Dragon in Wareham, Ma.

Collins later became a world champion himself as well as a member of the famed Team Paul Mitchell sport karate team..
Since the introduction into the US, the system has continued to expand.
Tai-Ch'uan-Tao is now internationally recognized and through its students is becoming very prominent in competitive karate.
