Detailed description is . Die Synagoge Worms ist eine der ältesten Synagogen in Deutschland. Das 1034 erstmals gestiftete Gebetshaus wurde in seiner Geschichte mehrfach zerstört und neu aufgebaut; es dient heute den in Worms wohnenden Mitgliedern der Jüdischen Gemeinde Mainz als Gebetshaus und stellt gleichzeitig eine wichtige Sehenswürdigkeit der Stadt dar, die meist in Verbindung mit dem Friedhof Heiliger Sand besucht wird.GeschichteEine jüdische Gemeinde in Worms entstand wahrscheinlich im 9. oder 10. Jahrhundert. Die erste Synagoge in Worms wurde 1034 von Jakob ben David und seiner Frau Rahel finanziert, was diese in einer Stifterinschrift dokumentierten, die heute neben dem Eingang zur Männersynagoge eingemauert ist. Dieses erste Synagogengebäude wurde während des Deutschen Kreuzzugs von 1096 und des Zweiten Kreuzzugs 1146 beschädigt.Ein Neubau der Synagoge erfolgte 1174/75 im romanischen Stil der Wormser Dombauschule, er wird heute als Männersynagoge bezeichnet. 1185/86 wurde südwestlich der Männersynagoge eine unterirdische Mikwe angelegt. Die Frauensynagoge wurde 1212/13 nördlich an die Männersynagoge angebaut. 1624 erfolgte der letzte Ausbau der Synagoge: Nördlich der Frauensynagoge wurde ein Vorbau errichtet, westlich der Männersynagoge das so genannte Raschi-Lehrhaus als Jeschiwa.
