There were times in the beginning of my photography that I thought I couldn’t throw any of my negatives away. I was very passionate about my work. I thought I needed to diligently document my settings, and store them away in archived sleeves so that I could go back and review them more closely and learn to do better. I then learned to work in the darkroom and develop my own film and print my work because I wanted to learn the mechanics of photography. I’m grateful to have all the manuals of negatives I created through the years.. . Entering into the digital era I have photographic files here, there and everywhere. I really didn’t learn early on a good way to consistently manage my work until just a few years ago. I have them on CD disk, floppy’s, zip drives, thumbnails, phone, print copies, hard drive and a few cloud services. If I need any documentation on my work, I look up my file information on my photos. Quite different from the past work. Since attending this university I have found more purpose to what I do and I am going back to the basics of working with negatives that are digital. I also found that I am revisiting the darkroom more often experimenting in alternative processes.. . Today, I still have a passion for the more work as I find it is more refined and created in a style I have chosen to create on my own. I have gone back to post processing my own work by heading back to the dark room and experimenting with alternative processes. I would never have thought working in a dark room would be considered alternative processing. It’s ironic how past skills can meet up with the future skills to refine work we can now call a work of art.
