Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church was built in 1889.
The first Mass was offered on January 29, 1889.
According to early parish records, services were held in Platteville in family homes as early as 1885.
When the original church was completed, the first Mass was offered on January 29, 1889 by Rev.
James G.
Hickey.
To replace the first church, a new church was erected under Father Doran one half block west of the original church in 1946.
Nuns came from Denver in 1945 to start teaching catechism classes and they have continued since.
