Detailed description is St Jerome School 1909 is dedicated to preserving the heritage that this building represents. February 24, 2012. Dear St. Jerome Parishioner, . . Three years ago, the St. Jerome Vision and Planning committee was formed to focus on the future needs of the Parish and the immediate issue of the utilization of the Parish assets previously leased by the Graves County Board of Education.. . From the start, the fate of Haeseley Hall has been a source of controversy and a situation that required significant consideration and study. Therefore the committee moved ahead with planning the use of the remaining buildings which has been successfully completed.. . Once those recommendations for the other structures were completed and accepted, the Vision and Planning committee sanctioned a sub-committee with the express purpose of determining if Haeseley Hall could and should be saved for productive use for the Parish.. . For the past year, the sub-committee has worked with architects, contractors, historians, and fellow parishioners to determine the viability of saving/restoring Haeseley Hall as St. Jerome School 1909. The approach has been broken down into three phases. . . Phase I – Structural Integrity. . Phase II – Class Room (1) restoration and development of a resource library and parish museum. . Phase III – Expansion uses such as a chapel, Picnic Committee office, meeting rooms, community center, and other ideas that have been proposed.. . A key principle was decided from the very beginning. No funds from the church’s general fund will be used to restore or support Haeseley Hall. This means that no part of your regular giving to support the Church will be used in the St. Jerome School project. Funds received for the St. Jerome School project will be maintained in a separate church bank account and detailed records will be maintained.. . A detailed plan has been presented and approved by the Parish Council and Fr. Darrell to proceed with a target of enough money to complete both Phase I and II before any restoration begins. The amount needed to complete Phase I and II is $150,000.. . In considering your support for the St. Jerome School project, please take a good look at the structure our parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents built in 1909. The structure has stood and served the parish for a century and a leading commercial building contractor has advised us that the structure will continue to stand as long as we need it. The extraordinary design was drawn up and construction was completed by our parish. Both the church and school were placed on the highest ground. The schools exterior walls are at lease two brick thick, possibly more, and each brick was made on the site. The building has a northeast and northwest hip roof built into the design. The structure is not a simple design. The design is very unusual and charming. In phase II, the school will house a restored classroom, a parish history and resource library, and a museum. . . . Enclosed is an envelope for your response to this project. These contributions are tax deductible and will be held in a separate St. Jerome parish account.. . If you contribute to this project and $150,000 is not raised by October 31, 2012, your money will be returned to you. . . We have also established a Facebook account to reach out to those former students that no longer live here and to provide updates about the fund raising and restoration progress. You can find it on Facebook at St. Jerome School 1909. Please visit the site for additional information.. . It has been a question of debate whether or not our Parish would support an initiative that pays honor to those that sacrificed so much to provide a school that has made us what we are today. In the 1890’s Father Charles Haeseley directed the parish to build a church. They did and we still worship in that church today. In 1908 Father Haeseley directed the parish to build a Catholic school. They did and completed the school in 1909 and that structure also stands strong today. This is our chance to recognize the effort and foresight that our grandparents and great grandparents displayed through their work to make faith and education the two top priorities of St. Jerome parish. We have the opportunity to provide our children with a solid example of what our ancestors did and what we can do by coming together as the God blessed unique community that we are.. . Thank you for your prayerful consideration.. . St. Jerome Parish Vision and Planning Committee. . . . . Please return in the envelope provided. . . . . The donation amount you can contribute today (enclosed) ________________. . Please make checks payable to St. Jerome School 1909. . Your donation pledge amount to be contributed by October 31, 2012 ________. . . I am unable to contribute but will support the project in my prayers _________. . . . As part of the reference library, we will be building a video history of the stories shared with us from those who attended St. Jerome School and St. Jerome Church. If you are interested in sharing your experiences, please add your name below and a phone number where we can reach you.. . . _____________________________________________Phone________________. . . . If you are interested in providing your services/labor during the restoration, please add your name below and a phone number where we can reach you.. . . _____________________________________________Phone________________. . . Thank you!. . The Parish Vision and Planning Committee. P O Box 38. Fancy Farm, KY 42039.
