How does it work? We love cars, in particular, classic sports cars.
We don't just like staring at them in our garages (although we've been known to do this), we love to drive them! And if you know old sports cars, you know they need to be driven in order to stay healthy.
One of the best ways to do this is to share the driving experience with like-minded car people that love to drive these great machines.
What's even better is that we live in an area that provides us with nearly year-round opportunities to drive these cars, and to top it off, we have some of the world's best driving roads, right here in our backyard!.

The problem is, while we all love these old cars, owning one can be problematic, especially if you don't happen to have a knowledgable mechanic on your phone's speed-dial.

Introducing Sports Car Adventures.
We are your one-stop place for getting the opportunity to drive a true classic sports car on the back-roads of Northern California.
Founded by two brothers, Dave and Emile Dell'Aquila, both intense lovers of old cars and driving them, we saw an opportunity to share our passion with other like-minded car nuts by making a fleet of classic cars available for you to rent and drive! Sound too good to be true? Not content with simply letting you get behind the wheel of an MGB or XKE (just 2 examples, we have more), we instead decided to put together a complete experience.
We offer both 1-day and 2-day tours where you can drive our cars in a group led by one of our trained professional drivers (usually me).
You'll be in touch with the lead car via radio so you'll never be stranded or stuck in the event something goes wrong (which has been known to happen).
These are old cars, and sometimes the unexpected happens..

What about the cars?.
All of the cars in our fleet have been sourced and prepared by Emile's Sports Car Performance in Santa Cruz.
Emile (my brother) and his Chief Mechanic, Peter Fricke, have been keeping old sports cars running properly for over 30 years, and is one of the last honest mechanics that knows these old cars inside and out.
We're proud to have Sports Car Performance as our exclusive service provider, ensuring that our fleet is always in tip-top shape.
Emile and Pete are recognized experts in the world of classic sports and exotic cars.

What do you offer?.
We offer single day and two day packages.
Both types involve you driving one of our cars in a group led by one of our experienced tour guides.
To be clear, we're not handing over one of our cars to let you go where ever you want.
If you want to do that, that's a not-on-the-menu don't ask how much it costs package.
:-) The distances may not seem like much, but driving an old car is not like what you may be used to.
They fully engage you (sight, sound, smell, and feel), and require your full attention.
You're not going to have blinking red lights if the oil pressure drops below normal (there's a gauge, but no idiot lights), or if the coolant temp gets above our comfort zone.
You'll need to let us know if something is not right, because after all we're entrusting you with one of our family members.

Single Day Package.
The single day package includes at least four hours (about a single tank of gas) of driving around local roads in the Santa Cruz mountains.
We start in Santa Cruz and depending on input from you and other guests, we'll head into and explore the mountains that separate the coast from Silicon Valley.
The only thing more fun that seeing an old sports car on the road is actually getting to drive one, and it's even more fun when you do it in a group.
We like stopping for lunch at Duarte's in Pescadero, or Alices' on Skyline Blvd.
We've lived here our entire lives, and know these roads like the back of our hands.
We know where all the interesting spots are to take pictures, stop for lunch, and avoid traffic.
It's a great way to satisfy your appetite for driving a car that reminds you it's still a machine, built by craftsmen by hand, and doesn't do the driving for you.
In fact, none of our cars have any computers whatsoever, except for the navigation system we provide so you can see where we go.
While we have our favorite roads, we've been known to switch things up based on who we're with and what they want to do.
We think of our route plans more as guidelines that set-in-stone "it's gotta be done this way" tours.
We like to think of ourselves as cool, and hope you are too.

Two Day Packages .
The two-day packages are where it gets interesting.
Inspired by the underground Vintage Car Rallies (Snowball Rally, Motherlode 400, Faultline 500, California Melee, and the Bohemian Rally) that take place throughout the year in Northern California, we wanted to come up with a way to let folks that didn't or can't own a classic sports car enjoy the same experience we did by participating in a larger group event.
Here's what we came up with:.

For a single price, you get to experience a full-on Vintage Car Rally, and we'll be your guide.
There are two types of rallies, those put on by a separate organizer, and those organized by Sports Car Adventures..
.
Two Day Package A.
Your options are a bit more limited with the rallies organized by someone else.
They're fun because there are a lot more cars, and you get to meet a lot more people, but they are still incredibly fun.
This is how we became addicted to these types of rallies.
They all range about 500 miles in distance, not including getting to the start, and returning the car back to our workshop.
We will always travel in a group so that when the inevitable failure happens, your tour guide/mechanic can get you back running.
We're the only participants to have won the coveted Wrench award multiple times, so yes, we know how to keep these cars going.
To be clear, these are NOT timed events.
Instead, we drive at our own pace.
There are brave souls participating in these rallies who like to drive faster than you may be comfortable with, no problem.
You drive at the pace set by our group leader, which is usually within legal limits, and always safe.
This helps to keep you out of trouble with the law, and let's us keep an eye on the car.
Each car is equipped with a walkie-talkie so you can let us know about anything that comes up.
We use analog radios because many of the roads we go on are out of cell-phone service range.
These rallies typically include one or two nights of lodging, a group dinner at the finish, and always deliver the most fun you can have with your clothes on.
Availability is extremely limited, and a $500 deposit (refundable if we can find an alternate to fill your spot) is required for these events.

Two Day Package B.
The second two day option is a Sports Car Adventure organized rally.
Same deal, we provide the car, lodging & dining arrangements, but you have more say into what we do.
If you like, we can plan everything; you can tell us if you want a burgers & Motel 6 experience, or a high-brow wine & cheese Bed & Breakfast experience, or whatever.
We'll set it all up so all you have to do is make sure you have funds in your account, three free days, and an option co-pilot (we highly recommended to do this with someone, as things are always more fun when you share it with someone else).
Like wineries? We take you to some of our favorites.
Want only eat at restaurants that start with the letter "S"? We can do that! Want to just drive a classic sports car through the streets of San Francisco? Yes you can! We'll be your Sports Car Concierge and not only suggest things to do and places to go, but we'll be right there in the car in front of you making sure you don't get lost.
Want to change it up on the fly? No problem, within reason.

Finally, we're thinking of doing a super-premium experience for hard-core driving enthusiasts only.
We love taking our cars to the track, and we're lucky enough to have not one, but TWO world class racing tracks, Laguna Seca and Sears Point, both within about two hours of our HQ in Santa Cruz.
Laguna Seca is only 45 minutes away! Have you ever dreamed of being behind the wheel of a highly tuned racing vintage car around one of these tracks? Of course you have! We all have! With the help of your pals at Sports Car Adventures, you'll be able to "Live the Dream".
This idea is still under development, and we'll post details when we're ready.
We're toying with the idea of letting you choose from some modern sports cars too, including the trusty MX-5.

Additionally, you can use your own insurance to provide an extra layer of protection in case bad things happen.
There's a reason they're called "accidents".
