Detailed description is The (SUSHOF) is a non-profit organization committed to recognizing the outstanding achievements or service to SU Sports. The Official Page of the SUSHOF The idea of the (SUSHOF) was conceived by Arnett W. Mumford head coach and Athletic Director and was further engaged for some months by a temporary committee before it was ratified by the large group that assembled for the initial meeting. Later the organization formed the Southern University Letterman's Club Athletic Hall of Fame, as a subsidiary unit for the purpose of giving recognition to former athletes who excelled in their respective communities, the state and the nation since leaving the University. In the latter years a series of events and meetings were held with references to the method and procedures by which former athletes were recognized. University officials and the Letterman's club were involved in the deliberations which resulted in the formation of the Southern University Sports Hall of Fame.. . In 1985 the organization at that time did not have a physical structure to house memorabilia and conduct meetings. However, the committee suggested that the Felton G. Clark Activity Center (Minnie Dome) be us as space on campus for meetings. The growing archive of memorabilia was housed in the John B. Library, African-American Collection in 1986, remaining there until the opening of the new $8.82 million dollar Arnett W. "Ace" Mumford Field House was completed in 2009.. . In October, 2014 the Southern University Sorts Hall of Fame (SUSHOF) changed the criteria for selecting honoree's and also and also utilized the services of Ms. Jessica Keyes, a former Southern University Fine Arts student to design the official crest for the organization. The crest, which is now a stale of the organizations, will be used on all SUSHOF communiques'.. . The criteria to select honorees would be based on athletic accomplishment, character and leadership, national significance of honoree, conduct during years following active participation in athletics, prestige to the Hall of Fame, representation of women, a balance between golden ager and present generations, national publicity, honor and credit brought to the home state, and representation of all sports over the years.. . The SUSHOF will be the basis for encouraging outstanding student athletes to attend Southern University and perpetuate the proud tradition of Southern University athletics.. . The first class of the Southern University Sports Hall of Fame was inducted in the spring 1960.
