Detailed description is Snow Creek Masonic Lodge # 90 AF&AM, 4990 Snow Creek Road, Martinsville, Va 24112. . The stated communication is held on the 4th Tuesday at 7:30 PM of each m HISTORY. Snow Creek Lodge No. 90, A.F. & A.M.. Martinsville, Virginia. . [email protected]. . Masonic meetings were held at Snow Creek before the old church and Lodge were erected in 1872. At that time, the nearest chartered Lodge, now extinct, was Vincent Wicher Lodge No. 87, (chartered on December 15, 1852 and inactive in December 1886), located in the community of Callands, Virginia. The Brethren of Snow Creek, desiring to establish their own Lodge, requested a dispensation from the Grand Lodge of Virginia, empowering then to open a Lodge in their community. The recommendation was made that the following officers be appointed:. . B. H. Tatum Worshipful Master. D. F. Hodges Senior Warden. J. R. Brown Junior Warden. . The dispensation was granted and Snow Creek Lodge was instituted early in the year of 1869. Records show that on June 25, 1869, a meeting was called and the bylaws were adopted. The first meetings were believed to have been held in a room on the second floor of the home of Brother B. H. Tatum, a residence which has since been occupied by the deceased Mrs. Namie Hurd.. . On December 15, 1869, Snow Creek Lodge No. 90 was constituted with a membership of nine. The charter members were: B. H. Tatum, D. F. Hodges, John R. Brown, C. C. Lee, W. P. F. Lee, B. F. Bernard, S. D. Cook, W. G. McGhee, and John W. McGhee. The meetings were held on Saturday night before the fourth Sunday of each month. It is assumed that during 1872, the first building to house Snow Creek Lodge was constructed. The building was a two-story frame structure, 30 x 40 feet, with the ground floor being occupied by the Snow Creek Christian and Snow Creek Methodist Churches, while Snow Creek Lodge occupied the second floor.
