Detailed description is Slavens School is a K-8 school in the Denver Public School system. This page is run by the Slavens PTA not school administration. Slavens Elementary School was constructed in 1956. Twenty-six years later, in 1982, a declining school population caused Slavens to close. After fourteen years of darkened classrooms, the tireless efforts of former students and community members persuaded DPS to reopen Slavens in 1996.. . Today, the Slavens School radiates with a spirit of warmth, discipline, humor and excellence. We have a challenging academic program that supports every child as a learner of worth and dignity. We strive to personalize teaching to ensure that all students learn to read critically, write effectively, speak articulately, and think logically and creatively in all disciplines including mathematics, the sciences and social studies. We offer vigorous physical education, community service opportunities and the lively pursuit of the arts. All of this provides a profound and well-balanced education for each and every student.. .
