Detailed description is Skoun is a Lebanese NGO committed to bringing life, health and hope to drug users and their families through a sustainable treatment model. . Skoun is a non-profit, Lebanese organization and the first outpatient therapeutic facility in Lebanon that offers prevention and treatment to drug users. Established in 2001 and legally registered in 2003, Skoun’s activities have, since, primarily focused on the following areas of interest:. . Treatment:. Skoun established the first outpatient center in Lebanon. Every year, more than 120 patients benefit from the various services including but not limited to: individual counseling, group therapy, family support, follow-up, substitution treatment, HIV and Hepatitis testing and treatment, and other medical care.. . Prevention:. Skoun supports and prepares Lebanese schools and community centers, at both the primary and secondary levels, in adopting and implementing a life skills education and substance abuse prevention program targeting youth ages 12-14. Skoun recognizes recreational drug use among youth and is very active in drug education for youth ages 16- 25, providing them with sound information and advice on safe use through its ‘Know More, Risk Less’ Program. . . Advocacy:. In 2010, 2532 people were arrested for drug use.This alarming number is disproportionately effecting our youth, 47% of those arrested are aged 18-25.. Skoun works to make addiction a mainstream health care issue, and, as such, advocacy is integrated in every aspect of our work. . We work closely with local communities and governments to devise and implement effective policies and build coalitions among NGOs and stakeholders, to ensure social and legal protection for the individuals and families directly affected by the health, social and legal consequences of drug use and addiction.. 32% of prisoners at Roumieh prison are here on a drug related charge..
