Detailed description is Sigma Sigma Sigma (ΣΣΣ), also known as Tri Sigma or Sigma, is a national American women’s sorority with membership of more than 100,000 members. They are members of the National Panhellenic Conference and host chapters on more than 110 college campuses and 88 alumnae chapters in communities all over the world.. . Tri Sigma's eight Founders, Margaret Batten, Louise Davis, Martha Trent Featherston, Isabella Merrick, Sallie Mitchie, Lelia Scott, Elizabeth Watkins and Lucy Wright, formed a special friendship at the Virginia's State Female Normal School at Farmville. Lucy Wright and Leilia Scott led the first meeting of the S.S.S. Club in 1897. They announced the founding of Sigma Sigma Sigma on April 20, 1898.. . These then were the girls who designed the first circle of Sigma friendship. In the few years before their school days ended, the Founders chose their successors wisely as they set the standards for growth. Leaving their Alma Mater at the the turn of the century, they realized their dreams of becoming teachers in their own or neighboring states. No matter where they went or what they did, they were never forgotten. As the night follows day, as April nurtures new violets, come April at Founders Day celebrations across our nation, they are remembered and fondly toasted.
