Detailed description is The Shemar's Wishing Well Foundation is a non-profit organization which aims to grant children (3-17yrs), with life threatening illnesses, one wish. . At Shemar’s Wishing Well, “A little kindness breathes happiness”.. . I met Shemar, our inspiration, in 2011 when I visited him in the hospital (my first time visiting anyone). Yep, I have a great fear of hospitals; I needed to have done it as Jermaine, Shemar’s brother, needed the support. Shemar amazed me. He was so full of life- I pondered the source of such vigour- “How could a child, diagnosed with cancer, exude such a cheerful persona?” We prayed together, he asked me to visit him again, unfortunately that day never came. . Sometime in May, 2014, I was invited by a friend to a show she was organising. She said that the show was in aid of a cancer patient. Would you believe the jab at my heart when I realised this patient was Shemar? He was 9 by now. I cried. I promised him I would visit him again. I felt I needed to have done everything I could to make the show a success. I started to seek donations. He needed to have undergone treatment overseas but the US Embassy denied his application due to a lack of sufficient funds. “Money, we need money,” was the cry of our hearts. But Shemar died before we could raise the funds. The show still happened; that money was used to cover his hospital expenses. . After all these events that could have been deemed coincidental, I knew I needed to do something, anything to honour such a name that meant much to me. I needed to give back to children, like Shemar, fighting life-threatening conditions. And so, the Shemar’s Wishing Well Foundation was born. Its aim is to make the wishes of children with life threatening illnesses come true. These wishes could fall into five categories: “Wish to be…”, “Wish to have…”, "Wish to go…”, “Wish to meet…" and "Wish to do…”. .
