Detailed description is The Sheldon Family's 4.9 acre nunatak in the middle of the Don Sheldon Amphitheater at 6000ft elevation on Denali is home to the historic Sheldon Mountain House (1966) and the newly constructed luxury Sheldon Chalet (2017).
The Sheldon family owns a 4.9 acre rock and ice covered outcrop called a nunatak at 5,800 feet in elevation in the middle of the Don Sheldon Amphitheater of Denali’s mighty Ruth Glacier.
Don claimed this spectacular piece of property in the 1950s while mapping the Alaska Range with Bradford Washburn, before this area was included in Denali National Park.
In 1966 Don tied lumber to the wing struts of his Cessna 180 and Super Cub, making numerous flights into the Gorge before he had enough materials for two Talkeetna locals to build the Mountain House.
Since then the independent adventure seekers from around the world have fallen in love with the Mountain House and it’s unique spot in the world..
