Facebook members can join our Facebook group at http://www.facebook.com/groups/SerendipityGSD/ Serendipity German Shepherd Dogs Rescue (SGSDR) was founded in 2004 with the purpose of rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing German Shepherd dogs within our community and surrounding areas. That purpose lives on today and is embodied by the rescue's leadership team, volunteers, and foster families. . . SGSDR is a 100% volunteer based organization and the dogs within the program primarily reside in foster homes with families while they await adoption. Dogs are evaluated for the program based upon temperament and available foster homes or kennel space. SGSDR considers dogs of all ages, as well as dogs with medical needs, for the program -- dependent upon available resources. SGSDR is a 501c3 charity and survives on donations to support our efforts.. . All dogs that are approved for the program are held for no less than 14 days before becoming available for adoption. This allows us to get to know the dogs and what their needs may be in an adoptive home. During that period, the foster family -- who has opened their home to the dog and provided the opportunity for that dog to enter the program -- have first option to adopt, if they choose. Many foster homes do not adopt their fosters, but some do; we welcome new members to our Foster Failure Club as many of our leadership team are members as well.. . Adopters interested in any SGSDR dog are required to complete an online application available on our website, www.serendipitygsd.org. Once received, your application will be processed and you will be contacted by a representative of the rescue to discuss next steps. We are not a first come/first serve rescue and we do not hold dogs for anyone. Therefore, the dog you applied for may have already met their family by the time your application is processed. . . We work very hard to make the right match for our adopters and our dogs and to do so in a timely fashion. We often have more than one family interested in the same dog so there are times when one or more families are disappointed that they do not get to adopt the dog for whom they initially applied. We are firm believers that things happen for a reason and sometimes the dog you thought you wanted was not the right dog – but THAT right dog is right around the corner. For that reason we STRONGLY encourage families to submit an application and get “pre-approved” if they are in the market for a new family member!!!
