Detailed description is SereNole Lodge: "The House that Jack Built". A Living Museum and Legacy of . Jack and Joyce Wingate The real log house that my parents built over a period of 10 years is itself a historical 'relic'. Built from old growth cypress from Telogia Swamp, tobacco barns and warehouses from Attapulgus, Havana, Taylor's Crossing and Quincy, 11x16x20 ft beams that came from the Black Forrest of Germany..they were used as packing crates for the first carpet looms brought here by American Fibers Inc. back in the early 70's. Other old log homes were torn down and the useable lumber was included in this house. Hundreds of man hours by my Dad, friends, neighbors, craftsmen and the young men that worked at our fishing lodge were required to make this huge place a home.They moved in Dec 10th, 1986 and my Father passed away two days before their 25th anniversary of living here. It's been a work in progress and has evolved into a museum of sorts for the many Indian artifacts, war relics and family heirlooms he and my Mother have collected over their lifetime. . It was Daddy's greatest wish that his legacy become a , state recognized, historic site and museum. My goal is to see that dream realized. . By donations and fund raisers, we intend to use the proceeds for the restoration and preservation of the house and all the artifacts. It is my further intention to be able to carry on my Dad's teachings of the Native Americans from this area as he did by going into the schools, allowing small groups to come into the house and watch a presentation done simultaneously by him and myself via video tapes. We intend to have visiting hours on a limited basis within the next year, mainly by appointment. . I'm discovering that it takes a lot of work and funds to make this happen and on behalf of my family, I have faith that Daddy's many friends and acquaintances will help make this dream come true. .
