On November 13, 1953, at the home of Margaret Jones Moore, Delta Uplison Sigma Chapter was born.
The Regional Director at the time was Luclen James.
Dorothy Height was the National President at the time the chapter was chartered.
The name of the chapter was changed to Selma Alumnae in 1957.
The charter members were Ruth Southhall Boyd, Eunice Burwell Gilford, Estella Wigfall, Irene Berry Williams, Gloria Ridgeway Blanchette, Ann Moorer Boyd, and Margaret Jones Moore.

The first officers were: Ann Moorer – President, Mavel Edwards – Vice President, Ruth Boyd – Recording Secretary, and Irene Berry – Corresponding Secretary.
After the chapter was chartered, these ladies along with other Deltas who returned to the city or moved to the city to work after college went to do public service activities.
One of the signature projects was the “Jabberwock.” This project was conducted annually and involved school children to showcase their talents and abilities..
