Seeking Common Ground is an educational non-profit dedicated to exploring, modeling and inspiring more sustainable and restorative ways of life. . . This work is carried out through innovative community programs where people create participatory solutions to tough challenges including abuse, poverty, food crises, chronic illness, and our disconnection from each other and the Earth. . . Together we choose connection over alienation, hope over despair, and new insights over old responses, creating our part in a just and vibrant world.. . Current programs include: Herb Haven, an educational day program for women and children healing from crisis where horticultural therapy, support groups, healthy living skills, supportive community and vocational skills are woven together into a holistic approach for improving the mental, emotional, spiritual, social and economic well-being of the participants. . . Finger Lakes Farm to Cafeteria, a collaborative alliance between farmers, food service directors and Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ontario County to increase the use of fresh, nutritious, local foods in institutional cafeterias including schools, care facilities, colleges and business. This win-win-win situation supports the health of students, patients and other cafeteria patrons, as well as creates brand new markets for local farmers . As agriculture is the #1 industry in Ontario County, it also supports the stunning, rural beauty of our farming region that enables our chosen way of life, and attracts tourists from near and far. . . Shimmering Light Community Farm, an educational organic farm that has raised five new organic farmers along with hundreds of local consumers who are more educated and involved with our local food supply. At the farm we teach organic growing methods, share the work and harvest with those in need, celebrate community with barn dances and seasonal festivals and preserve 26 acres of prime development land for long-term agricultural use. Farm members have gone on to start food coops, farmers markets, community gardens, local foods websites, and much more. . .
