Established in 1996, the Search and Rescue Volunteer Association of Canada (SARVAC) is a federally incorporated registered Canadian Charity that provides a national voice for ground search and rescue volunteers in Canada to address issues of common concern, to develop consistency, and promote standardization or portability of programs and volunteers, and deliver initiatives that benefit and support all ground search and rescue volunteers in Canada, as well as the general public.. . . SARVAC represents the thirteen provincial and territorial volunteer Ground Search and Rescue Associations in Canada. The Board of Directors is comprised of volunteer representatives from each of the provinces and territories. Ultimately, SARVAC represents the interests of 12,000 Ground Search and Rescue (GSAR) volunteers throughout Canada who provide search and rescue services on land and inland waters. . . Pendant les deux années qui ont suivi la rencontre de 1996, grâce au financement du Fonds des nouvelles initiatives de recherche et de sauvetage (administré par le Secrétariat national de recherche et de sauvetage), l'ACVRS a réuni des organismes de maintien de l'ordre, des responsables en matière de mesures d'urgence et son tout nouveau conseil d’administration afin de poursuivre les discussions concernant la recherche et le sauvetage terrestres au Canada et tout particulièrement le rôle et les besoins des bénévoles en recherche et sauvetage.. . Ces réunions ont donné l'occasion aux intéressés en recherche et sauvetage de partout au pays d'échanger idées et points de vue et de discuter de questions d'intérêt commun.
