Please Like & Share Page! The School of Industrial Fisheries was established in 1976 as the Department of Industrial Fisheries under the erstwhile University of Cochin for postgraduate teaching and research on all aspects of fisheries science and technology.
The Dept.
Was elevated to the status of the School under CUSAT since 1995 by recognizing the progress achieved in Teaching, Research and outreach activities in various facets of fisheries.
The School offers two Professional Degree Courses viz., M.Sc.
Degree in Industrial Fisheries, Master of Fisheries Science (M.F.Sc.) in Seafood Safety and Trade and one M.Phil.
(Fisheries Science) programme and Ph.D.
programmes under the Faculty of Marine Sciences.
Research areas of the school includes Aquaculture, Fishery Biology, Craft and Gear Technology, fisheries economics, fisheries management, Fish Processing Technology, Seafood safety, Ornamental Fisheries and Fish Marketing & Trade etc.
The School provides guidance and facility for students to work on any subject of topical interest in the fields indicated above.
The alumni of the School are spearheading the Fisheries Administration, Research and Academic institutions under the state and central governments.
The Alumni of the school are well received by the industry and trade both inside and outside the country.
The faculty of the School has so far published four books, 500 research papers, four monographs and book reviews, besides having gained international exposure by visiting overseas institutes in the field.
The School has organized numerous national and international seminars in the field of Fisheries and its allied fields.
