Diese historische Einrichtung auf der Höhe des Sandsteinfelsens,auf der sich 30m über der mittelalterlichen Stadt Stiftskirche und Schloß erheben,kann auf eine jahrhundertelange Geschichte zuückblicken.Die Räume des heutigen Schloßkruges sind 1617 von der Äbtissin Dorothea,Herzogin zu Sachsen,zwecks Erweiterung der Wohnung des Stiftshauptmannes ausgebaut worden.Später befand sich hier eine kleine Bewirtschaftung.1934 entstand unter der kundigen Leitung des Stadtbaumeisters Otto Becker die öffentliche Gaststätte "Schloßkrug am Dom".Wer vom Garten her,also von der Ostseite den *Krug* betritt,durchschreitet eine holzgeschnitzte Eingangspforte mit Muschelsitznischen aus der Zeit der Renaissance.Am Ausbau zur Rechten lassen sich die Dichterworte Gottfried Kellers ablesen:*Trink´o Auge, was die Wimper hält von dem goldnen Überfluß der Welt*.. Das mag sich auf den Blick von der Höhe des Schloßfelsens auf Stiftskirche und Schloß sowie auf die malerische Stadt in der Tiefe beziehen.
