Detailed description is Basic grooming services for dogs 40lbs and under I worked as a manager for Petsmart for 3 years. During that time the managers received some basic cross-training in the grooming department (mostly relating to safety procedures, bathing, etc). I managed a veterinary hospital (Pets Are People Too in Dunwoody) for two years and managers were trained in the kennel, performed baths on dogs and cats, nail trims, ear cleanings. I also assisted the groomer from time to time, holding pets and observing his techniques. I had a yorkie at the time and wanted to learn to groom her myself, so I asked a lot of questions. I also worked as a veterinary technician in Cartersville for a year. The techs would perform baths, sanitary trims, ear cleaning, and nail trims. I'm totally self taught as far as the haircuts go, so I'm the first to admit I don't do show cuts. But basic shavedowns and puppy cuts are pretty straight forward if you have the right equipment and I do. . . I don't do anal glands for a reason. If your dog doesn't have issues with his or her glands, they shouldn't be messed with because it can actually weaken the muscles in that area that take care of that job naturally. If your dog does have issues, I'd prefer to have them expressed internally by a qualified veterinarian who would be more likely to catch a problem if there were one before it turns into an abscess. Most groomers do an external expression which doesn't get all of the material. . . I use an all natural goats milk soap handmade from a dairy in VT.
