We are a community college with a music department featuring many opportunities for music majors wishing to take courses, lessons, and ensembles and transfer to a 4-year institution to finish a BA/BM degree.. . Our A.M.P. (Applied Music Program) offers weekly applied music lessons for music majors that pass the entrance audition and enrolled in the mandatory Music Theory & Ear Training basic skills classes (required of all music majors at any institution). Currently, we have full & part time music faculty offering lessons in Classical Voice, Jazz & Classical Saxophone, Classical Guitar, Percussion (Classical Percussion, Jazz Drumset & World Percussion), Jazz Guitar, Jazz Bass, Jazz & Classical Piano, and more.. . Music Majors can study composition and take classes in the Electronic Music Studio learning up to date aspects of digital & analog music production, engineering & editing as well as composition. . . We have a full compliment of Music Theory and Ear Training courses and our Maas Computer Lab is open to all Music Majors to work on ear training and music theory assignments.. . Our Performance Ensembles include: Vocal Ensemble, Classical Guitar Ensemble, Jazz Guitar Ensemble, World Music Ensemble (world percussion & vocal repertoire), Concert Jazz Band (large jazz ensemble), Jazz Combo (small jazz ensemble), and Athletic Concert Band (pep band). . . Additionally, there are additional ensembles available through our Continuing Education Program including The New City Sinfonia, Kearny-Mesa Concert Band, and The Seratones Mixed Voice Chorus (these ensembles do not count for graduation credit).. . Our additional music courses include Introduction to Music, World Music, History of Jazz, History of Rock Music, Piano Class, Voice Class, Guitar Class, Jazz Theory, Music Technology & Composition (6 different courses), Music for Elementary Teachers, Music of Our Time, Music, Arts and the Humanities.. . The Recital Hour features weekly musical performances showcasing talented students, masterful faculty, musicians of the local community and performers of world renown, and a venue for educational quality concerts for students, campus and community each semester.. . Scholarships are available for qualified Music Majors and our tuition is very affordable at just $46.00 per credit. Students also have available to them fully equipment practice rooms and ensemble performance spaces including many piano practice rooms, and rooms for percussion, voice, guitar and jazz instrumentalist practice.. .
