Our great transboundary rivers - the Taku, Stikine and Unuk – are the backbone of our shared economy and culture, in Southeast Alaska.
As some of the last wild and healthy rivers on the West Coast, we rely on their clean water and wild salmon runs to support our jobs, our families, and our ways of life.
Not only are fishing and tourism the top two sectors of our modern economy in this region on both sides of the border, over 20 different tribes and First Nations have relied on these rivers culturally, nutritionally, and economically for thousands of years.

The Taku, Stikine, and Unuk Rivers are facing a raid, large-scale wave of industrialization that could transform our region forever.
Between 10 and 20 mines are proposed for the headwaters of our salmon rivers--along with roads, large-scale hydro projects, transmission lines, and Hoover-sized dams to store several billions of tons of acid-generating waste rock and mine tailings.
The KSM mine alone would extract 130,000 tons of gold, silver, copper, and molybdenum per day from three open pits and an underground mine in tributaries that flow into the Nass and Unuk Rivers.
If built, KSM mine's open pits would be among the largest and deepest of their kind in the world, and KSM mine is just one of many industrial mines planned for the headwaters of our great salmon rivers..
