The combination of classroom facilities with hands on practice will elicit student interaction and enhance awareness of environmental factors relative to bicycle and pedestrian safety, the impact of NOT wearing safety equipment such as seat belts and safety helmets and the importance of using hand signals while bicycling.
Other important safety topics include stranger awareness, fire safety, water safety, school bus safety, and looking to the future the facility could also reach out to the elderly for appropriate safety awareness courses.
The fire safety component will include a single bay simulated fire house with a fire truck and equipment typically used by firefighters.
A Fire Safety House is a feature that would reinforce classroom learning.
Simulated practice fire safety lessons such as what to do in the event that a smoke detector is activated, exit plans, the importance of stop, drop and roll, crawl to safety, family meeting points, and kitchen safety have children practice in a realistic setting.
