Çeşitli devlet memuriyetlerinde bulundu. Türkiye ve Ortadoğu Amme İdaresi Enstitüsü'nde Organizasyon ve Metod ile İdarecilik kurs ve eğitimi gördü.. . 1967 yılında aktif siyasete atıldı. MHP Gençlik Kolları Genel Başkanlığı yaptı. 1969 yılında MHP Genel İdare Kurulu'na seçildi ve 12 Mart 1971'e kadar gençliğin eğitim ve teşkilatlanması işlerini yürüttü. 12 Eylül 1980 ihtilaline kadar MHP' Genel Başkan Yardımcılığı görevinde bulundu. Devlet, Töre ve Bozkurt dergilerinin yayınında görev aldı. 1977 yılında Niğde Milletvekili olarak TBMM’ye girdi. Demirel'in Başbakanlığında kurulan koalisyon hükümetinde Devlet Bakanı olarak görev yaptı.. . 1980 darbesi sonrasında tutuklandi. MHP davasında idamla yargılandı. 2 yıl tutuklu kaldiktan sonra beraat etti. 1980 - 1995 yıllarinda siyasetten ayrıldı. Türk Ocakları Genel Merkez Heyeti üyeliği ve Genel Başkanlığı görevlerinde bulundu.. . 1995 seçimlerinde ANAP Aksaray Milletvekili seçildi. 1.5 yıl sonra MHP'ye katıldı, Genel Başkan Yardımcılığı yaptı. 1999 seçimlerinde tekrar MHP' den Aksaray Milletvekili seçildi. 57. Hükümette Devlet Bakanlığı görevini üstlendi. Cumhurbaşkanlığına aday olduğu için Mayıs 2000'de bu görevinden azledildi.. . Halen Yeniçağ gazetesinde yazarlık ve Milli Düşünce Merkezi'nde başkanlık yapmaktadır.. .
