Detailed description is The Rosebud Sioux Tribe's Defending Childhood Initiative (DCI) addresses children's exposure to violence and serves children ages 0-17.
The RST DCI is funded by the U.S.
Dept of Justice to address children's exposure to violence in the U.S.

Our goals are to respond to and reduce the negative impact of CEV (children exposed to violence), prevent CEV and increase community awareness of CEV on the Rosebud Reservation.

We serve the ages of 0-17 year olds, the child must be living on the Rosebud Reservation, and be directly or indirectly exposed to violence to receive DCI services.

DCI found that 100% of our children are exposed to violence on the Rosebud, either directly as victims or witnesses or indirectly as the children of relatives of victims of violent crime and suicide.

Once a child is accepted into the program, and intake process is complete a case coordinator will be assigned.
and they will be eligible for, BUT not limited to the following services; .
* Child Advocacy: DCI actions designed to help children and youth obtain needed support, resources, or services, including health care, counseling, safety planning, ect.

* Juvenile justice advocacy/court accompaniment; assisting with criminal legal issues including notification of case status, hearing dates, plea agreements, and sentencing terms; preparing paperwork such as victim impact statements.
accompaniment to a criminal court proceeding or law enforcement interview; and all other advocacy within the criminal justice system.

* Cival legal advocacy/court accompaniment- Assisting with cival legal issues, including preparing paperwork for a protection order and accompanying child to a protection order hearing, administrative hearing, or other cival court proceeding.
Does not include advocacy by attorneys and or paralegals.

* Crisis Intervention- intervening with an individual in crisis so as to restore balance and reduce the effects of the crisis in her or his life.

* Education Advocacy- Advocating within the school system to ensure that educational needs of child are met, including the rights of homeless children and youth to a barrier-free education.

* Hospital/clinical/other medical response- Accompanying a child to a hospital, clinic, or medical office.

* Transportation- provision of transportation to access the DCI and above services and referrals.

DCI DOES NOT INVESTIGATE CRIMES AGAINST CHILDREN OR PROVIDE LEGAL SERVICES, BUT DOES PROVIDE REFERRALS TO LEGAL SERVICES!
