Detailed description is The Bobby Binion Memorial scholarship is dedicated to the Northern NM School Districts graduating athletes in their efforts to pursure their eduational dreams......We are a small organization with high hopes of achieving all of Bobby's dreams. Bobby Binion, was born in the small northern town of Tierra Amarilla, New Mexico, a place not well known to many, but where young children have very select sports to participate in and learn to play with heart. . Bobby was a very young man when he learned to play basketball in a community park next to home and softball in a very small league. Football was a family sport and was made up of girls and boys, cousins and neighbors. Bobby learned the passion very young and by the time he was school age, he played every sport offered. He succeeded in every one of them and was always dedicated to his teammates. . This young man was a true athlete, breaking several high school records in basketball and leading his basketball team to a State Championship in 1988. His football record was just as impressive. He also competed in the sport of track and field. After graduating from Escalante High School in Tierra Amarilla, Bobby Binion went on to college at New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Bobby walked on to the Cowboys’ football team as wide receiver.. Bobby became ill during his college years and had to give up football, but his desire to be a coach was far a bigger dream and so he took on coaching track and field teams at Robertson Middle School in Las Vegas, NM close to the Highland’s University campus. . Not only did he coach the Robertson Middle School team, he helped any other athlete he met along the way. Bobby’s victories came from seeing athletes reach their goals and cross the finish line.. On January 13, 1996, at the age of 24, Bobby Binion, died after a long illness related to Gastroenterology, 29 days short of his 25th birthday He needed only one more credit hour to graduate from college. Bobby’s family did receive his college diploma with great pride and was honored by the audience at commencement. Bobby was also privileged after his death to be an honorable member of the coaching staff at Taos High School, where he would have started his coaching career.. His story continues even though he has been gone now for over nine years. After his death, stories were told to his family about his noble effect on young adults, teens, and children. He spent much of his free time helping young athletes during high school and college years. He was such an inspiration to many.. The Robert E.
