When Riverview High School opened its doors in 1998 the marching band was known as the Shark Attack Band; before the beginning of the 2012 marching season the band's students voted to change the name to match their new competitive and driven attitude, and the Blue Coat Regiment was born.

Blue Radiance is a member of the Florida Federation of Colorguards Circuit (FFCC), and competes as the main visual component of the Blue Coat Regiment in the fall marching season before moving on to their own indoor season in the spring semester..

During the 2015 season the team placed first in every regional they attended and their season culminated at the FFCC Championships in Daytona Beach where the team took home silver medals after placing second in the Class AA Knights Division.
