Detailed description is Our mission is to provide the community with mental health care and provide intensive trauma treatment for soldiers at Fort Drum.
The River Community Wellness Program (RCWP) is an established partial hospitalization program (PHP) that provides comprehensive, innovative, and intensive trauma treatment for active duty Soldiers for five hours a day, five days a week for an average duration of six to twelve weeks.
In addition to evidence based trauma therapy, some of the unique therapy techniques that are offered at RCWP include art therapy, exposure and in vivo therapy, pet assisted therapy, couple’s counseling, family therapy, and recreational therapy.
The treatment at RCWP is provided off-base, is entirely civilian-run, and is located in a healing environment on the St.
Lawrence River.
This is beneficial because many Soldiers with PTSD are hesitant to participate in intensive treatment on military installations due to their traumatic experiences.
In addition, the behavioral health care provided at RCWP is highly individualized.
RCWP works with the Fort Drum behavioral health to support the large demand for behavioral health treatment.
We hope to keep the program open to support the overwhelming need on Fort Drum.
