My family had a 28 cow dairy farm in Minnesota, and Michael's family had beef cattle and grew tobacco in Kentucky.
He currently works in the berry industry, and I raise our two young children at home.
We have deep roots in sustainable agriculture, and know how to truly care for the animals we keep so that they live comfortably, naturally, and healthfully.

When we bought our house in 2012, we brought our 5 laying hens with us, and over time, added a few here and there.
There are now 19, and they have access to 2 acres of pasture and oak trees every afternoon.
They graze on grass for a bit, but mostly, they love digging under the leaf litter for insects.
They also get most of our kitchen scraps.
We offer them organic layer pellets, and while we try to prevent all exposure non-organic materials, we occasionally have to use a worming medicine that is not organic.
This is done during the winter, when laying is limited, and the eggs are discarded for a prescribed amount of time.

We raised and butchered our first batch of 10 Cornish Cross broiler chicks in 2014, and have been hooked ever since.
We now raise them in a movable chicken tractor that allows them to forage on plants and insects.
Because they have more space and healthier living conditions than their CAFO counterparts, their meat is firmer, juicier, and more flavorful.
We have chosen the Cornish Cross because they are bred to grow quickly and convert feed more efficiently.
They have the meatiest breasts and thighs, which people have come to think of as "chicken".
We currently feed a conventional grower mix, which is free from antibiotics.
If demand for organically-fed birds rises, we will move in that direction.
