Detailed description is The Reid Temple Orchestra provides amateur & professional adult musicians with opportunities to worship and minister to the community through music.
As a prerequisite to ministering effectively through music, the orchestra musician is expected to come prepared to serve by being able to read intermediate music, know the basic rudiments, scales, and techniques associated with their instruments, and having a desire to play praise and worship music.
As not to diminish the gifts bestowed upon them; the orchestra ministry will challenge each musician to become respected professionals by offering challenging music, encouraging the practice of fundamentals and establishing a consistent rehearsal schedule..

Founding History.

Evangelist Myrna Summers (Minister of Music @ Reid Temple) and trombonist/public relations executive David Thompson are credited with being the co-founders of the Reid Temple Orchestra.
The two of them conducted the first rehearsal in December 2004 in a small room located in the basement of the Good Luck Rd location.
Upon the request of Myrna Summers, Mr.
Thompson installed T.
Alan Young as the orchestra’s first Musical Director.
Alan, a professional saxophonist, writer and arranger has a degree in Music Education from the University of Maryland, College Park and has been a member of Reid Temple since December 2001.

David and Alan devised a rehearsal schedule and a performance plan in December 2004.
David was the initial developer of the Reid Temple Orchestra and helped recruit the original members and Alan selected the music and rehearsed the group.
The first group was an eclectic mix of a dozen school aged children and amateur adults.
To help get the orchestra off to a positive start, keyboardist Marcus Burke was added to enhance the orchestra’s sound and violinist Autumn King and her string quartet joined pro bono as guest Artists in Residence.
In February 2005 as part of the Dedicatory concert at the new Glenn Dale location, the orchestra, eliciting arrangement assistance from Patrick Lundy, had their debut; a rendition of the classic hymn "Great Is Thy Faithfulness" performed with the great Myrna Summers and the Reid Temple Mass Choir!.
