Detailed description is Our mission at RDMH Dialysis Patient Support Group is to provide support and support services to those afflicted with kidney disease. The purpose of forming a Dialysis Patient Support Group in the Roxbury, Dorchester, Mattapan, and Hyde Park is to assist patients and their families in adjusting to the manifestations of a chronic illness, such as renal failure, primarily associated with diseases such as Diabetes, Hypertension, HIV and ATN.. . This group focuses on outreach and advocacy to patients and their families. Patients, and families are educated on renal failure, the disease process, and various forms of treatment options such as, hemodialysis, continuous cyclic peritoneal dialysis, and continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis. In addition we will try to educate patients on healthy lifestyle such as smoking cessation.. . As a support group we will help patients, and families cope with the daily emotional, and social needs associated with the stress of unemployment, and financial difficulties that often accompany illness. It is our hope to provide a positive environment which will allow patients to have continuous access to a support person, or persons twenty-four hours a day.. . Our goal as an organization is to help patients find a support system within our organization, or in our community of greater Boston, Roxbury, Dorchester, Mattapan, and Hyde Park. We will provide counseling through a licensed psychologist, a licensed social worker, and provide other services to meet the needs of our members.. . RDMH Dialysis Patient Support Group holds monthly meetings in a group setting to allow members access to continuous support, and a venue for patient education as it relates to their illness, and other emotional problems.. . At RDMH Dialysis Patient Support Group our main objective is to improve the quality of life for all dialysis patients and patients with a diagnosis of Chronic Renal Disease. Our organization welcomes the support, and works with all area hospitals, and free standing dialysis units in greater Boston, and Massachusetts.
