Detailed description is The LGSO addresses the needs of Purdue's Latinx graduate student population and represents their interests and perspectives to the greater university community. In September 2016, a small group of students that would later become the 2016-2017 LGSO Board, started meeting to discuss building an organization that could provide a sense of community for Purdue Latinx graduate students. Starting from nothing at the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year, these students have nonetheless successfully managed to organize social and professional development events directly addressing the expressed needs of Purdue Latinx graduate students.. . For example, the LGSO has hosted informal chats with Faculty members, whose experiences and advice have been invaluable to many Latinx graduate students attempting to navigate the unfamiliar territory of academic and professional life. In addition to hosting Faculty chats, the LGSO-sponsored weekly study nights have helped bring Latinx graduate students together to form a tightly-knit community of peers.. . In the future, we hope to expand the scope and reach of our organization according to feedback we receive from students.
