I am a mother of 5 children and started these events back in 2012.
Our first event (and what was meant to be the only event) was to raise money for a charity called Heartfelt, and after that event I was asked to do more of them, so I continued and we are still going strong..
.
There are so many other people who benefit from my events, from the stall holders that come along on the day to make a few extra dollars and to get their name and products out to the public all the way down to the little kids who come along and get their faces painted while eating popcorn, fairy floss, a slushy or a twisted potato.
Or even the little boy who wouldn’t get his face painted until his mum got hers done first.
Or the older lady who knits amazing doll clothes and comes to these markets to sell some of her goodies just so she can make enough to then go out the next day and buy some more wool to knit some more.
She doesn’t knit and sell them for a profit, she does it because she loves seeing the smiles on the little girl’s faces when they come along and their mum buys some for her.
Or the mum and daughter that just come out to these events to spend time together, just the two of them, and end up walking out with bags of stuff for the rest of the family.

Yes, I find out all about the wonderful people who come along to my events.
Every one of them have a story to tell on why they started selling what they do.
A lot of them are so personal I actually feel privileged having them attend.
There are so many amazing and talented people in our local community and beyond that it’s a shame they haven’t really got an outlet to get their stuff out to the public.
Yes they are able to sell it over the internet, but it is so much better seeing it in person and being able to actually see what you are about to purchase, and also find out the story behind that particular item.
Also the seller of that product, that probably put hours of hard work into making it, gets great satisfaction in seeing the person who is purchasing their items.
I try and have a wide variety of stall holders on the day so there is something for everyone who comes to visit the event.

I love organising these events.
It gives me great satisfaction giving back to the community and also seeing the looks on peoples faces when I present them with money or gifts that I have got for them.
My greatest satisfaction was donating 100% of proceeds, including raffle and silent auction prizes, which equalled over $2000 to Heartfelt back on 15th September 2011.
And then the one at Tabcorp on December 9th 2011, where door entry donations were given to Jenny from The Orange Pigeon, and then I went out and spent extra money buying little boys toys and men’s items that I then wrapped together with the donated items amazingly donated from some members of the community and stall holders, and with a face painter who attends my events, we went to Sunshine Hospital and while she painted the kids in the children’s wards faces (for free) I handed out the presents and then went down to the palliative care ward and maternity ICU, and handed out presents to them also.
There were many tears that day and it wasn’t just from the patients.
A lot of them couldn’t believe that someone had gone out of their way to bring them presents.
It warmed my heart that day to see the children and elderly smile because someone cared.
To see them shed a tear because someone thought of them.
Just to hear a thank you made it all worthwhile.
In those occasions, a thank you is worth a million dollars.
Actually, it’s worth more than that.
Money cannot buy the joy I felt doing that for the hospital.
It was amazing.
It’s a feeling you can’t even explain.

These events are about helping my talented stall holders, both men and women (and some children) to show their products to the wider community.
They trust me to organise these events where they come and spend the day showcasing their goods.
Even if they don’t sell anything, they don’t get angry as they have had a great day out socialising with other like minded people.
Most of them go home broke actually as, like me, they can’t resist browsing the other stalls and spending their money buying from the other stall holders.
It’s also such a great networking opportunity for everyone as I have stall holders from local suburbs including Melton, Rockbank, Exford, Darley, Bacchus Marsh, Cairnlea, Deer Park , Gisborne and Sunbury.
And then I have stall holders from further afar such as Ballarat, Macleod, Craigieburn, Seaford, Mornington, Bendigo, Castlemaine, Talbot, Cheltenham, Rowville and Wantirna.
As word is getting out about my events, more and more people are contacting me to be involved.
This is such a good avenue for Melton and the local business people as it shows off our little town and the great people who live in it.
Many of these people then come back on another day to have a look around at the local shops, car yards, real estate etc.
Now, that’s great for the future of our town.

If you haven’t noticed, I am truly passionate about these Family days.
To put everything on the line, I feel that I need to set a good example for my kids and show them that if you want something bad enough and are willing to put your heart and soul into it, that you can achieve anything your heart desires.
I love standing in the midst of it all on the day, looking around and realising that I organised it all.
Seeing everyone having a great time pushes that self doubt further and further from my mind.
