Hippotherapy is a speech & language treatment strategy that uses the natural movement of the horse to promote communication skills. All of our hippotherapy sessions are held at Windswept Acres at Stonetown, an excellent boarding and riding facility conveniently located in Exeter Township (between Reading and Pottstown) off of Rt. 422.. . Our goal is to give children a unique sensory experience using the natural environment of the farm and the movement of the horse. This sensory experience creates a foundation for the development of their sensorimotor systems, which in turn, positively affects their motor planning functions. When combined with other standard speech-language intervention strategies, we are able to generate effective remediation of communication disorders and promote functional communication outcomes. . . Horses are extremely motivating and a great self-esteem builder! Children experience the benefits of therapy without feeling like they are doing any work.
