Detailed description is The American Dream. . The story of Pizzadili's deli and catering is one quite like many other Italian immigrants and their American dream. To come to the United States, Italian immigrants needed to have a sponsor in the US that would guarantee that these immigrants had housing and a job. This is why John and Lucy Pizzadili opened Pizzadili's deli in Dover, Delaware in 1955 so that when John's brother, Salvatore, came to the United States in 1956 with his wife, Sabina and their three children, Tony, Pete, and Maria; they would have a place to work. Tony, Pete, and Maria would go to Felton School during the day and worked every night and all day on Saturday at the deli. The deli has always been closed on Sundays for the family to spend time together. This is a tradition that continues to this day. As Salvatore's family began working at the deli, it was a step that would lead to Tony and Pete's permanent work starting in 1968. Maria was once a partner with her brothers at the deli, however in 1972, Maria married and moved back to Italy. This was the beginning of the 42 year partnership between Tony and Pete Pizzadili. The two brothers continued to conduct business very similar to the previous years until the fire of 1974 when the deli was completely destroyed and had to be rebuilt. The new deli opened up in May of 1975 and was a new beginning for the brothers. It was a time for the two I)rothers to prove that they were the successful businessmen that they knew they were. And that's exactly what they did! Through the years, the brothers established an exemplary reputation for high quality food and customer service. The brothers have catered to the needs of their loyal customers and have enjoyed watching generations of families enjoy their food. They value their customers and place them as their top priority. This is obvious to anyone who has ever been to Pizzadili's. Each customer is remembered by name and is treated like a friend. And in an Italian's world, a friend is like family!
