Detailed description is Offering Private, Partner & small group lessons on all pilates equipment.
Focus is on orthopedic post-rehabilitation, NKT and youth dance medicine.
Experience - that is what you want in any business, and that is what is offered at Pilates on Hudson.
Owner Marilyn Miller has brought together a fantastic group of instructors, all of whom are former professional dancers in either ballet, modern or theater dance, and have been working as Pilates trainers for over 10 years each.
All Instructors are certified through the two top rehap focused pilates schools - Stott Pilates and The Kane School of Core Integration in NY.
Additionally, all of our instructors are trained in Neurokinetic Therapy - the most advanced form of manual muscle testing designed to find the cause of and end your chronic pain.
.
.
I have an Injury - can I still do pilates? .
Absolutely! In fact, often times, depending on the type of issue you have, you will probably benefit from doing pilates.
If you are bothered by chronic back pain, knee hip or shoulder arthritis, degenerative discs, and a whole host of other stuff, we are the right place for you.
If you want to get off the drugs, and get out of pain, come check out our approach.
We don't force you into a group of 20-somethings just to give you a workout; instead, we address each issue individually, gently coach you to get into the right position or find the right muscle groups, and lay a foundation that can gradually be built upon.
Sometimes results can be seen in a few lessons, sometimes it might take months but we promise you we will help.
.
.
What kind of Injuries do you work with? .
We have worked with chronic low back pain, knee pain, hip pain, we have experience working with clients with partial and total knee replacements, anterior and posterior approach hip replacements, microdiscectomies, spinal fusions, and the list goes on.
Owner and instructor Marilyn Miller has personal experience with doing pilates for her dance injuries, which include spinal arthritis, degenerative disc disease, SI inflammation, chondromalacia patella, tendonitis, stenosis and spondylilolisthesis.
.
.
What about Dance Injuries and Dance Medicine?.
As all of our instructors are former dancers, we have particular insight into this.
Owner Marilyn Miller is a former professional ballerina, and first did pilates at the center for Dance Medicine in San Francisco, CA.
Current studies in Dance Medicine indicate that 50% of all dancers develop life-long chronic pain issues, and many of those issues begin during adolescence.
Because of her background and experience, she can quickly ascertain what a young dancer's weaknesses are, and develop both an in-studio and home practice to help them strengthen and thus lessen their risk of injury.
.
.
How do I get started? .
If you are coming for an injury or other orthopedic issue, you should book an Initial Evaluation and Lesson.
This hour and a half lesson consists of a health history review, postural analysis, gait analysis, muscle strength tests if necessary, instruction in the basics of pilates (breathing, core, pelvic floor and gluteal engagement), and then you are put through a short tailored workout on the pilates equipment.
.
.
What if I don't have an injury but want to work on the equipment? .
You can book the introductory special, which is 3 private lessons for the price of 2 at only $199.50.
You still get the one on one in depth instruction, but not quite as intense.
.
.
How do I start doing group equipment classes? .
If you have done pilates equipment classes before, you are welcome to book any class with us.
If you haven't, we ask you do at least 3 privates before we place you.
That gives us time to see how you work, see what, if any issues you have, and determine what would be the best class for you to go into.
.
.
I booked an Initial Evaluation and Lesson - now what? .
We recommend you do the three private lessons so we can get a feel for how you work, then it is up to you how to continue.
We recommend you do this at least twice a week.
If you enjoy the attention of privates, we will gladly schedule you in.
Should you prefer partner lessons or group classes, we will see if there is a spot for you.
.
.
Do you provide a partner for me? .
We do our best to find a partner for you who is at the same level, dealing with similar issues and can come at the same time.
You can guess that it's not always the easiest thing, but usually we succeed.
.
.
I take pilates but my friend doesn't and would like to try.
Can I bring a friend to my lesson? .
Yes, but if your friend has never done it before, it may be a bummer for you as we may spend most of the time teaching them the basics.
We don't discourage this, but we don't necessarily encourage it either.
They are welcome to come watch you for free.
.
.
Do you offer a free consultations? I'm not sure if this is for me.
.
Absolutely.
You are welcome to book a 1/2 hour free consultation with any of our instructors and we'll talk to you about the history of pilates, show you around the studio, and answer any questions you might have.
.
.
Is Pilates the same as yoga? .
Yes and no.
Joseph Pilates pulled from many sources for inspiration when creating his method, and there are definitely elements of yoga throughout the Pilates repertoire.
The main difference is that pilates adds in dynamic stretching and resistance training, where as yoga is more about static stretching and body-weight training.
.
.
Why is pilates so common in the dance world? .
Pilates works so well in the dance world because it takes people who generally are very flexible (hyper-mobile) and pulls them back together to provide greater core strength and stability, which in turn makes it easier for them to do the amazing things they do.
.
.
I have absolutely no flexibility - can I still do pilates?.
Yes.
Pilates will give you more flexibility by strengthening the tight and weak muscles in your body and re-balancing how your body works.
.
.
I'm a guy - do men do pilates? .
Of course! Although all the info on t.v.
would have you believe only leotard-clad supermodels do pilates, the reality is people of all shapes and sizes come and benefit from this style of conditioning exercise, even men.
.
.
Do you offer pilates certification classes there? .
No, not at this time.
We can give you suggestions on where you might want to go, if you are interested in doing pilates as a career.
.
.
Do you offer any yoga classes? .
We have a couple of early morning classes during the week that anyone is welcome to try out.
.
.
Do you offer any new client specials?.
For the yoga classes, we offer the first class free, and then 4 classes for $40 (a savings of 50% off the regular price).
.
.
What do I need to bring?.
Nothing but yourself, and maybe a towel.
We have all the props, mats, blocks, etc.
that you might use.
.
.
How do I sign-up for a class or appointment?.
visit our website - www.pilatesonhudson.com, and go to Book Online.
We max out our group yoga classes at 9 people, and our pilates equipment classes at 5 people.
.
.
What should I wear?.
Something that is comfortable to move in, not too baggy so we can see your physique, and is not too revealing.
For young dancers, please wear leotard and tights and bring your dance shoes, particularly point shoes if you use them..
